third
way

Heaven is described as a feast highlighted by beautiful diversity, with every tongue, tribe and nation together around the table. We hope the Third Way is a chance to experience this “on earth as it is in heaven.”

This posture has been in the DNA of Newsong from the beginning. Our dream has always been to be a multicultural church where your neighbor is someone different than you.

In one word, Third Way is about inclusion. In two words: radical inclusion. In practice, it’s about making the table at Newsong as accessible as possible, no matter what.

Our mission is to shift the power dynamics of this world, where those with power choose to spend it on the creation of protected space for those without it.

Here are some guidelines to keep in mind as we gather in spaces to listen and learn from one another:

We can talk about anything.

If there’s a subject where people think, “Oooh, don’t go there!” – we go there, as long as people feel safe.

We listen.

We show respect for one another’s point of view and where they are in their relationship with God.

We’re vulnerable.

We’re honest as we allow ourselves to be seen and known.

We show empathy.

We are curious, not judgmental. We ask questions.

We might not agree at the end.

And that’s ok. We can still be at the table together – “in essentials, unity; in

non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity.”
