Spiritual Direction

Spiritual Direction

Spiritual Direction is a process that involves responding to God’s invitation to draw closer in relationship. It involves learning to discern God’s presence and activity in your life, and make choices based on that awareness. In Spiritual Direction, you meet one-on-one with a Spiritual Director. Contrary to the title, a Director does not direct a person – there’s no teaching, preaching, advice-giving or judgment. Instead, a Spiritual Director will hold space for you to share. Directors are trained in the art of contemplative listening and create a safe space to explore God’s activity in your life. The Spiritual Director uses reflective questions, contemplative practices, and various methods of prayer to support the exploration process and assist in discerning life choices, dreams, longings or any other significant issues. The overall goal is increasing connection with God.

Melody’s Bio

My journey with God has been full of ups and downs. From a young age, I learned about God but I didn’t really know Him. I was taught some helpful rules, but I missed out on experiencing God’s presence. As I have grown and encountered many joys and difficult circumstances in life, I have learned to converse with God, listen for His input, and truly experience His love personally. I am convinced that God is always present, His love is unconditional, He delights in me, and He wants me to delight in Him. I am passionate about helping others increase their awareness of God’s love and delight in them and helping them identify any roadblocks to experiencing His presence personally.

As for my professional background, I have a BS in Economics, an MBA, a Certificate in Spiritual Direction, and a MA in Counseling. I currently work as a mental health therapist. In the past, I have worked in business consulting, non-profits, and church settings. Personally, I love the beach, hiking, riding bikes, traveling, engaging in great conversations with friends, and spending time with my family (my husband and four children) in whom I take much delight. Please contact me to schedule a session via Zoom or in person.

Rema’s Bio

I grew up in a church culture that viewed God as a judge and strict boss. Questions were discouraged, and fear drove my faith. As I entered adulthood and walked through a difficult season, I found myself in a faith crisis, desperately needing to encounter a God of love. It was during this time that I began meeting with a spiritual director myself and it was exactly what I needed – a space to wrestle through my questions, process my emotions, examine my beliefs, and ultimately meet the God of love and compassion I had been longing for. This inspired me to become a spiritual director myself. I deeply value this ministry of coming alongside people on their spiritual journeys. My hope is to create a safe space for people to listen for the voice and heart of God, where they can walk more fully in freedom and embrace their identity as His Beloved.

My educational background includes a BA in Ethnic Studies, Masters in Social Work, and Certificate in Spiritual Direction. Our family has been part of the Newsong community since 2018. I love reading, traveling, and drinking boba milk tea. You can reach me at [email protected].

Helen’s Bio

Life is beautiful, yet it can also be hard. We aren’t meant to walk our journeys alone. It would be my honor to walk alongside you in this season of your life with our loving God and within a safe, supportive, and holy community.

I’m bilingual (Mandarin/English), bicultural, and currently living in Southern California with my husband and adult child.

My journey with God began in my mid-twenties while living in the States. Since then, I’ve been experiencing life’s ups and downs with Him and His faithful community. God has been gently healing past wounds and revealing false beliefs, and guiding me into His truth. I’m learning about dreamwork, the impact of trauma, and the influence of cultural values on our lives. I am learning and accepting that emotional and spiritual growth is a lifelong journey. Throughout, I’m learning to live as His beloved and to love God and others well.

I hold a bachelor’s in environmental engineering, a master’s in environmental and occupational health (1998), and a master’s in spiritual formation and soul care (2025).

Personally, I love being in nature, gazing at starry skies, practicing sustainability, learning new things, spending quality time with friends, family, and God, and worshiping God with my heart, mind, body, and soul.

If you’re seeking someone to walk alongside you, I invite you to reach out at [email protected]. I offer a complimentary 15-minute Zoom call to connect and answer any questions. Thank you.

Eleanore’s Bio

My role as a spiritual director is to accompany people as they explore what it means to live the life of abiding that Jesus has called them to. The Holy Spirit is the true ‘spiritual director,’ and I believe He is always moving, always speaking, always extending the invitation to a deeper life with God. When I sit with my directees, my hope is that together we can discover where the Lord Jesus is revealing Himself in their lives—and how they might respond to His loving invitation so that they may abide in Him and He in them.

I received my training from the Institute for Spiritual Formation at Talbot School of Theology and have been practicing spiritual direction since 2021. My husband Joel and I live in Fullerton, where we regularly enjoy visiting local coffee shops. In my spare time I love reading, gaming, and going for long walks on Saturday mornings.

Susan’s Bio

It has become increasingly clear over the decades of my medical practice that much of physical illness originates from unresolved emotional and spiritual wounds. My experience in inner healing prayer ministry has also shown that even in areas where we have experienced emotional and spiritual healing, we still need to remain attentive to how God is working within us and in the circumstances of our lives to receive the fullness of freedom God intends for us. As a certified spiritual director, I am deeply grateful to walk alongside those who bravely pursue this kind of freedom and wholeness through a deepening relationship with God.

I currently serve as a prayer team coordinator at Newsong Church and continue to serve on the Sola Dei Inner Healing prayer team. I also serve as a Senior Spiritual Director and a cohort supervisor for the Spiritual Director Certification Training Program with Soul Shepherding Ministries. I enjoy leading spiritual formation practices that help people connect with God through prayer and meditation, in settings ranging from small groups to large gatherings and retreats.
