Music played a major role in Jerry’s life, from his teenage years
with the Dick Metco polka band, to making and enjoying music whenever
he could.
In 1985 Jerry opened “A New Song Coffeehouse” in
order to bring quality independent acoustic music to Bedford .
Later he was instrumental in forming the Boston Area Coffeehouse
Association. Rather than compete, the Boston area coffeehouses
nurture each other, helping to make Boston one of the most vital
folk music scenes in the country.
Jerry died after a nine mont h s truggle with non-Hodgkin’s
Lymphoma; he left a legacy of music which we hope will be remembered
for years to come. A part of this legacy is our yearly tribute
to him through “Jerry’s House” concert series.
During one of his chemo sessions at NEMC, Jerry
was put in a room in which someone had donated a Bose radio. That
week he enjoyed hours upon hours of beautiful music, soothing
his physical and emotional pain. The room he was in on his last
day didn’t have a radio. The nurses managed to find a boom box
which we put to good use, listening to old favorites as he died.
Proceeds from this year's “Jerry’s House” will be
used to donate a Bose for that room.
Suggested Donation for all shows is $10.00 For more
